Born in 1984 in Poland, this blog’s author Peter Jagla spent most of his life in Germany where he immigrated to with his parents and three years younger brother Paul in 1989 just before the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Living in Gütersloh, Germany, he grew up in a multicultural suburb with families from Russia, Turkey, Poland and Germany. After receiving the university-entrance diploma Peter spent one year traveling around Australia in 2004/2005 before he started to study Cultural- and Media Science in Düsseldorf, Germany. After getting the Bachelors degree he moved to Hamburg to begin his Masters in Journalism and Communication studies. Peter started his journalistic career with 16 years, working for a commercial radio station in Gütersloh, Radio Gütersloh. During his studies he kept working for several radio stations and a commercial TV-station, center.tv, in Düsseldorf as a freelance reporter and video journalist. He left Germany for Australia to study two semesters in Journalism at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in 2009 and now lives together with people from Spain, Sweden and America in a multicultural flat in Enmore just out of Newtown. Asking about his choice of studying in Sydney, the young journalist answers without even having to think about it: “I love it. I love Australia. I love Sydney. This is my place to be.” And why AYCM and Newtown? “Oh, because of the vibrancy, the beat. I love this place already for its diversity and all the interesting people.” Peter is into photography as well, he sais, “so be sure you’ll see some nice pictures on this journalistic blog, too.”
